Who needs GST registration?

Do You Actually Need GST Registration?

Not every business needs to register. The rules depend on your turnover, what you sell, and where you sell it. Here's a clear breakdown — based on the latest 2026 GST rules.

Mandatory by Turnover

Crossing the turnover limit?

Registration becomes mandatory when your aggregate turnover crosses these limits in a financial year:

  • Goods: ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh in special category states)
  • Services: ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special category states)
  • West Bengal: ₹40 lakh goods, ₹20 lakh services
Mandatory · Any Turnover

Selling certain ways? You must register.

Registration is compulsory regardless of turnover if you:

  • Sell inter-state (across states)
  • Sell on e-commerce (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho)
  • Are a casual taxable person or non-resident
  • Need to deduct/collect TDS or TCS under GST
  • Provide online services from outside India
Voluntary · Smart Move

Below threshold? Register anyway.

Even if not mandatory, voluntary GST registration is often a smart move because:

  • You can claim Input Tax Credit on your purchases
  • Big clients prefer GST-registered vendors
  • You get professional credibility instantly
  • Required for most B2B contracts & tenders
  • Easier loan approvals from banks
What's included in ₹2,499

₹2,499 All-In. Every Step Covered.
Including the Hard Parts.

Most websites quote ₹999-₹1,499 for "GST registration" but that's just the application filing. When the officer asks for additional documents, you pay extra. Companyji's ₹2,499 includes everything — start to GSTIN.

⚠ The hidden GST registration nightmare

"Application Filed" is Where Other Websites Stop.
That's Where Your Real Problem Begins.

After your GST application is submitted, the officer can issue a clarification notice (REG-03) demanding additional documents. This is where most applicants get stuck — and where most online services charge you extra. Companyji handles every single officer query, every clarification, every follow-up — at no extra cost.

📜

The CBIC tried to fix this. Officers found loopholes.

CBIC's Instruction No. 03/2025-GST told officers to stop demanding landlord PAN, photos, affidavits. In practice, many officers still ask — citing different reasons. We handle these demands strategically and lawfully, without delaying your registration.

What officers actually ask for (real cases from our clients):

01
Landlord's PAN & Aadhaar

Even when rent agreement is registered. Officers ask for landlord ID proof to "verify ownership."

02
Selfie with Landlord

Yes, this happens. Officers ask for a photograph of the applicant standing with the landlord at the premises.

03
Last 3 Years' ITRs

To verify your business is "genuine" — even though ITRs aren't part of standard documents.

04
Property Tax Receipt

Latest property tax payment receipt of the registered office — even when you're a tenant.

05
Business Website

"Show me your business website." If you don't have one yet, application stalls.

06
Photo of Business Signboard

Photo showing your business name displayed at the premises. Required even before you start operations.

07
Bank Statement

Last 3-6 months of bank statements to establish "genuineness" of business activity.

08
Photo of Premises (Inside)

Multiple angles inside the office showing furniture, computers, employees — proof you actually operate there.

09
Stock Statement

For traders: list of goods you intend to sell, with valuations. Often demanded informally.

The Companyji Difference

Whatever the officer asks, we respond within 24 hours. No extra fee. No "premium support" upsell. No leaving you alone to figure out a Show Cause Notice. Your ₹2,499 covers it all — until your GSTIN is in your hand.

Two paths to your GSTIN

Fast-Track 3-Day GSTIN or Standard 7-Day Process?

Under the new GST Rule 14A (in force from 2025), low-risk applicants with Aadhaar authentication can get their GSTIN in just 3 working days. Most other cases follow the standard 7-day timeline. We help you assess which path fits.

Standard Process

7-Day Standard GSTIN

7 days

The default GST registration timeline if no clarification is sought by the officer.

  • Application filed in REG-01
  • Aadhaar OTP authentication done
  • Officer reviews within 7 working days
  • If no query — GSTIN issued automatically
  • If query — REG-03 issued, you respond in REG-04
  • Final GSTIN delivered after approval
⚡ Fast Track Eligible

3-Day Fast-Track (Rule 14A)

3 days

For low-risk applicants who pass Aadhaar authentication and have clean documents.

  • Aadhaar authentication mandatory
  • Officer's risk assessment must be "low"
  • All documents pre-approved by us before filing
  • GSTIN issued within 3 working days
  • Withdrawal possible if profile changes
  • Best for first-time applicants with clean history

Just Speak to Our Expert.
Then Decide.

You don't have to commit right now. Take a free 45-min session with our CA. We'll assess if you actually need GST (sometimes the answer is "wait"). We'll explain composition vs regular scheme. We'll tell you what HSN codes apply, what ITC you can claim, and what compliance burden comes after registration.

If after that session we're not the right fit — that's completely fine. You'll leave better informed. But we believe once you experience genuinely good advisory, the decision makes itself.

Be honest with yourself

Are We the Right Expert
to Get Your GST Done?

We're not for everyone. We'd rather tell you upfront than waste your 45 minutes — or ours.

This IS for you if...
You want GST registration done by a real CA — not a call center agent
You don't want to deal with GST officer queries yourself — you want experts to handle it
You want to know upfront if you should choose composition or regular scheme
You want a final price — not a teaser quote that grows after officer asks for documents
You want to maximise Input Tax Credit and choose the right HSN/SAC codes
This is NOT for you if...
You want the absolute cheapest ₹999 service — even if it means handling officer queries alone
You're happy to upload documents yourself on the GST portal without expert review
You want to pay 5 different "extra fees" along the way — ₹999 base, ₹500 NOC, ₹1,000 SCN reply, etc.
You don't care about choosing the right scheme — you'll figure it out later
You'd rather ask Google for help when officer rejects your application
Real clients. Real results.

After Registration
Pricing & Plans
What is GST registration and why is it required?
+
GST (Goods & Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax system replacing VAT, service tax, excise, etc. Registration gives you a 15-digit GSTIN that lets you legally collect GST from customers, claim Input Tax Credit on your purchases, sell inter-state, and trade with B2B clients who require GSTIN. It is mandatory once you cross turnover thresholds or fall into certain categories like e-commerce sellers.
What is GSTIN?
+
GSTIN is your 15-digit Goods & Services Tax Identification Number, unique to your business. Format: 2-digit state code + 10-digit PAN + 1-digit entity code + 1-digit check digit + 1-digit Z. Example: 19ABCDE1234F1Z5 (where 19 = West Bengal).
What is Input Tax Credit (ITC)?
+
ITC means you can claim back the GST you paid on business purchases. Example: if you collect ₹18,000 GST from customers and you paid ₹10,000 GST on your purchases (rent, software, raw materials), you only deposit ₹8,000 to the government. ITC is one of the biggest benefits of GST registration.
Is GST applicable on all goods and services?
+
No. Some categories are exempt (e.g., fresh agricultural produce, healthcare, education by recognized institutions). Some are nil-rated (0% GST). The rest fall under 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% slabs depending on the HSN/SAC code. We help you classify your products/services correctly.
Difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
+
For intra-state sales (within same state): GST is split into CGST (Central) + SGST (State) — half each. For inter-state sales (across states): IGST (Integrated GST) is charged — full amount goes to centre, then distributed.
What is the turnover limit for GST registration?
+
In normal category states (including West Bengal): ₹40 lakh aggregate turnover for goods, ₹20 lakh for services. In special category states (Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, etc.): ₹20 lakh for goods, ₹10 lakh for services. Aggregate turnover means total taxable + exempt + export + inter-state supplies, calculated on PAN basis across India.
Who must register regardless of turnover?
+
Mandatory regardless of turnover: Inter-state suppliers, casual taxable persons, non-resident taxable persons, e-commerce sellers (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho), persons required to deduct/collect TDS/TCS, agents, input service distributors, online service providers from outside India.
Can I voluntarily register if below threshold?
+
Yes. Voluntary GST registration is allowed and often smart — you can claim ITC on purchases, B2B clients prefer GSTIN holders, you get more credibility, and you can register on e-commerce platforms. You'll need to file regular returns once registered, even if turnover stays low.
Do freelancers need GST registration?
+
Freelancers (consultants, designers, developers, content writers) are service providers. Mandatory GST registration kicks in at ₹20 lakh annual income in normal states. Below that, voluntary registration is optional but useful if your clients are GST-registered companies (they often prefer GSTIN holders for ITC).
If I sell on Amazon or Flipkart, do I need GST?
+
Yes, mandatory. All e-commerce platforms (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra, etc.) require GSTIN before you can list as a seller — regardless of your turnover. You cannot sell on these platforms without GST registration.
Can a single person have multiple GST registrations?
+
Yes. Multiple registrations are allowed in two cases: (1) Operating in multiple states — separate GSTIN per state required. (2) Multiple business verticals in the same state — separate GSTIN per place of business if you want.
What additional documents can a GST officer ask for?
+
Even though CBIC's Instruction No 03/2025-GST standardized the document list, officers in practice still ask for: landlord's PAN and Aadhaar, selfie of applicant with landlord, photo of business signboard, last 3 years' ITRs, property tax receipts, business website link, bank statements (3-6 months), photos of business premises (interior), stock statements. Companyji handles all such demands at no extra cost.
What is REG-03 (Show Cause Notice)?
+
REG-03 is a clarification notice issued by the GST officer when something in your application needs more proof or explanation. You must respond in REG-04 within 7 days. If you don't, application is rejected and you'll have to start over. Companyji drafts and files REG-04 for you — included in our ₹2,499 fee.
What if officer rejects my application?
+
If rejected via REG-05, you can either (a) reapply with corrected documents, or (b) file an appeal under Section 107 within 3 months. We help you understand the rejection reason, fix the issues, and reapply or appeal — no extra fee.
Can the officer demand a physical visit to my premises?
+
Yes. Officers can do physical verification in certain cases — especially if Aadhaar authentication isn't done, or if the address is in a high-risk zone. We coach you on what to expect and how to prepare. Most cases get resolved without verification.
My landlord refuses to give PAN. What do I do?
+
Common situation. The CBIC instruction says PAN of landlord is NOT required if rent agreement is registered. If your agreement is unregistered, we use a workaround — landlord's electricity bill + signed NOC (we draft) + property tax receipt. Has worked for hundreds of our clients.
How fast can Companyji respond to an officer query?
+
Within 24 hours. Our team monitors your application, alerts you if a notice arrives, gathers any required documents from you, drafts a strong response, and files it. Speed matters — slow response = automatic rejection.
What is the Composition Scheme?
+
A simplified scheme for small businesses. You pay 1-6% flat tax on turnover (no slab-wise GST), file quarterly returns instead of monthly, and don't need to maintain detailed invoice-level records. Trade-off: you cannot claim Input Tax Credit, cannot sell inter-state, and cannot supply through e-commerce.
Who can opt for the Composition Scheme?
+
Goods traders & manufacturers: turnover up to ₹1.5 crore (₹75 lakh in NE/hill states). Service providers (incl. mixed): turnover up to ₹50 lakh. Restaurants (non-alcoholic): also eligible up to ₹1.5 crore. Not allowed: inter-state sellers, e-commerce sellers, non-resident persons, ice cream/pan masala/tobacco manufacturers.
Composition tax rates?
+
Manufacturers & traders: 1% (0.5% CGST + 0.5% SGST). Restaurants: 5% (2.5% CGST + 2.5% SGST). Service providers: 6% (3% CGST + 3% SGST). Charged on turnover, not on margin.
Composition vs Regular — which to choose?
+
Choose Composition if: low purchase costs, mostly B2C customers, want simple compliance, no inter-state sales. Choose Regular if: high purchase costs (you can claim ITC and save more), B2B customers (they need GST invoice), inter-state sales, e-commerce. Our 45-min session helps you decide based on your actual numbers.
Can I switch from Composition to Regular later?
+
Yes. You can switch from Composition to Regular at the start of any financial year, or anytime if you cross the turnover threshold (then it's mandatory). Switch from Regular to Composition is also allowed but only at start of FY.
How long does GST registration take?
+
Standard process: 7 working days if no clarification is sought. Fast-track (Rule 14A): 3 working days for low-risk applicants with Aadhaar authentication. If clarification (REG-03) issued: can take 15-30 days depending on response speed and document quality.
What is the new 3-Day GST Rule (Rule 14A)?
+
Introduced in 2025 to speed up registration for low-risk applicants. If you authenticate via Aadhaar AND your application profile is rated low-risk by the system, your GSTIN is issued within 3 working days. If the system flags you as higher risk, standard 7-day process applies.
Can I track my application status?
+
Yes. Once REG-01 is filed, you get an Application Reference Number (ARN). You can track status at gst.gov.in using this ARN. We also send you status updates every 2 days until GSTIN is issued.
Is Aadhaar authentication mandatory?
+
Highly recommended. Without Aadhaar authentication, the officer typically conducts physical verification of your premises — adds 15-30 days. With Aadhaar OTP, you skip physical verification and qualify for fast-track.
Do I need to visit any government office?
+
No. 100% online process. Even Aadhaar authentication is OTP-based on your registered mobile. Companyji handles everything digitally — you just sign documents we email and reply with attachments.
What documents do I need for GST registration?
+
For applicant: PAN card (entity or proprietor), Aadhaar (for authentication), passport-size photo, mobile, email, bank account proof (cancelled cheque or passbook). For business address: if owned — utility bill or property tax receipt. If rented — rent agreement + landlord's utility bill. If shared — NOC + owner's ID + ownership document. Documents must be not older than 2 months.
Can I use my home address for GST registration?
+
Yes. Your residential address can be the principal place of business. Required: address proof not older than 2 months (utility bill or property tax receipt). If you're a tenant, also need rent agreement + landlord's utility bill. If property is in family member's name, NOC from them.
Do I need a business bank account first?
+
No. Your personal savings account works for GST registration if you're a proprietor — submit cancelled cheque or first page of passbook. For companies/LLPs, submit company current account proof (open one before GST registration).
What if my rent agreement is not registered?
+
Unregistered rent agreement is still valid for GST. Just attach landlord's electricity bill (latest, not older than 2 months) along with the agreement. We may also need landlord's ID proof — we draft a simple consent letter for them to sign. It's all part of our included service.
Photo size, format, file requirements?
+
Format: PDF or JPEG. Size: under 100 KB per file (photos under 100 KB). Resolution: clear and readable. Address consistency: must match across all documents (electricity bill, PAN, Aadhaar). Mismatches are top reason for rejection.
What returns must I file after GST registration?
+
Regular scheme: GSTR-1 (sales) by 11th of next month, GSTR-3B (summary & tax payment) by 20th of next month. Composition scheme: CMP-08 quarterly, GSTR-4 annually. Plus annual GSTR-9 for everyone. Penalty for late filing: ₹50/day (₹20/day for nil returns).
When is the first return due after registration?
+
First GSTR-3B is due by the 20th of the month following the month in which GSTIN was issued. Even if you have no sales, you must file a "nil return" — otherwise penalty applies. We coach you on the first 1-2 returns free.
Can I cancel my GST registration later?
+
Yes. If your turnover falls below threshold, business shuts down, or you switch entity type — you can apply for cancellation in REG-16. Officer reviews and issues REG-19 cancellation order. Final return GSTR-10 must be filed within 3 months.
Do you provide return filing services?
+
Yes. We offer monthly GST return filing as a separate service. Pricing: ₹999/month for regular scheme (covers GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B), ₹499/quarter for composition scheme. Companies registered with us also get 6 months of free TDS filing on Pvt Ltd registration package.
What if I miss filing a return?
+
Late fee starts immediately — ₹50/day (₹20/day if nil return) plus 18% interest on unpaid tax. If you miss 6 consecutive months, GSTIN can be cancelled by the officer. We also provide late return filing and GSTIN restoration if cancelled — separate service.
Why do other websites show GST registration at ₹499 or ₹999?
+
That's just the application filing fee. When the officer asks for additional documents (landlord PAN, ITR, property tax receipt, etc.), they charge you extra — typically ₹500-₹2,000 per query. If a Show Cause Notice arrives, that's another ₹1,000-₹2,000. Final cost easily reaches ₹3,000-₹5,000+. Our ₹2,499 includes all of that.
Are there any government fees for GST registration?
+
No. The Government of India charges zero fee for GST registration. Anything you pay is the service fee charged by your CA / consultant for application drafting, filing, and follow-up.
What's exactly in your ₹2,499 package?
+
Application drafting & REG-01 filing, document preparation (NOC, declarations, authorisation letters), Aadhaar authentication guidance, unlimited officer query handling, REG-04 reply if Show Cause Notice, GSTIN delivery to your email, free 45-min expert session, 30 days post-registration support.
Is there a Zero Advance Plan for GST?
+
Yes. Pay nothing upfront. We file your application, handle all officer queries, deliver your GSTIN — only then we collect payment. Eligibility is reviewed during the free 45-min session.
Are there any extra charges I should expect?
+
No. ₹2,499 is final. Officer asks for selfie? Included. SCN issued? Included. Reply needs revision? Included. The only "extra" we charge is for ongoing return filing services (monthly GSTR returns) — that's a separate optional service.
